Without fail the group projects have proved to be the most popular and most interesting assignment
for this course. Depending on enrollment the students work in groups of four or five to create
this chapter for a history textbook. I have been amazed at the originality and ingenuity that is
consistently displayed by the students. Students use libraries, diaries, and the most popular
history web sites to research events and select photographs that best illustrate their particular topic.
Parents of my students have commented on the excitement that this has brought to their college student.
Some students have taken their work back to their high school history teachers to show the type of work
that they are doing. Lastly, this group project has changed many "undeclared" students to history majors.
