"I Always Had Pads with Me": A G.I. Artist's Sketchpad, 1943-1944

"North Africa - December 1943."
This is one of the company's 105-mm howitzers. This particular cannon didn't make it to Italy. During one bombardment a round got caught in the barrel of the cannon. There was a lot of frantic work with the ramrod and a lot of praying the round wouldn't go off. Finally, we gave up and pushed the cannon over a cliff into the sea.
